Creating Communities of Engagement
Irving Middle School: At the Irving in Roslindale, we support 40 minute periods each week for every student, focused on social emotional, social justice, action-oriented curriculum highlighting themes of Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility. These themes come to life with school imagery, common language in all classes, speakers, strong student leadership, and more. Academic teachers continue the community infusion by weaving the real-world into their classes – for instance by having students invest in micro-economies and study the environment right around their school. Lastly, we support student-run after school culture, building leadership and community connection.
